Meso scale urban environmental performance evaluation in high density urban context

Urban environmental performance evaluation is critical regarding the strategies to achieve urban sustainability. It is a particularly crucial implementation on the urban meso-scale in the early stage of urban planning and urban design before detailed architectural designs are finalized. It is different from macro-scale analysis of urban planning strategies which could be difficult to be translated to downstream design options and micro-scale analysis of building design solutions which could be constrained by upstream planning conditions. This study reviews the status quo of the research on meso-scale urban performance evaluation in different domains. It will also highlight the implementation of an integrated workflow through several research cases regarding the implication to facilitate performance-driven urban and architectural design explorations.
